Jonas St. Michael was born in Canada and holds a Master of Fine Art degree from Goldsmiths, University of London and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Concordia University in Montreal. His work in photography and film are often conspicuously constructed image worlds that examine the theatricality of experience and social interaction.
He has exhibited nationally and internationally including Haus am Lützowplatz (Berlin), OK Harris (New York City) and MOMENTA | Biennal de l'image (Montréal) among others. He has received grants from The Canada Council for the Arts and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec.
In recent years, he has been an artist-in-residence at The British School at Rome (2016) and at the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) in Brooklyn, New York (2018).
In 2023, he participated in an artist residency exchange between Quebec and Mexico through the Sistema de apoyos a la creacion y proyectos culturales (SACPC).
