Jonas St. Michael was born in Montreal and holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Goldsmiths, University of London and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Concordia University. His photographic practice examines the nature of representation and narrativity through built environment and image production. More recently, his practice has shifted to making photographic and video works that are conspicuously constructed with the aim of creating an ostensible reality.

Jonas St. Michael has exhibited nationally and internationally including Haus am Lützowplatz (Berlin), OK Harris (New York City) and VU PHOTO (Quebec City). He has received grants from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and The Canada Council for the Arts. In 2016, he was an artist-in-residence at The British School at Rome. He has had recent solo exhibitions at MOMENTA | Biennal de l'image (Montréal), The Harcourt House Artist-Run Centre (Edmonton) and at Galerie Diagonale (Montréal). In 2018, he was an artist-in-residence at the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) in Brooklyn, New York.
